About
Who We Are
Since 1975
Providing Services To Persons With Disabilities
Resource Center for Disability Solutions (RCDS) was chartered in 1975. The agency was originally named Space Coast Association for the Physically Handicapped Inc., later changing its name to Space Coast Center for Independent Living, Inc. Renamed Resource Center for Disability Solutions in 2019, the agency is recognized as Florida’s very first Center for Independent Living (CIL). Florida now has 15 Centers for Independent Living providing services in all 67 counties. RCDS is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation and under federal mandates receives Federal and State funding for Independent Living services. The organization serves persons with disabilities in Brevard and Indian River Counties.
RCDS welcomes people of all ages and all disabilities FREE of charge. The organization provides experienced guidance so individuals can reach their goals through planning and the right mix of services to make daily life more independent. For example, a young adult wondering what life after high school looks like and if there are resources for them to transition to independent living; a parent navigating their special needs child’s education plan; an adult who is suddenly facing limitations to their abilities; or an older adult needing assistance in maintaining their independence and remaining in their home. For these and many other scenarios, RCDS stands ready to assist with knowledgeable counsel. Plus, over 50% of the employees at RCDS also live with a disability, and there’s nothing more comforting than peer-to-peer understanding of the services that make day-to-day life easier.
