Building a World of Opportunities: Celebrating Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month with RCDS

March brings much focus to the importance of inclusion and celebrating diversity. This year, Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month (DDAM) carries the powerful theme, “A World of Opportunities.” Here at the Resource Center for Disability Solutions (RCDS), we echo this message wholeheartedly and stand alongside the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD) in working towards a future where individuals with developmental disabilities can thrive.

What is DDAM and Why Does It Matter?

Launched by the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD), DDAM serves as a crucial platform to raise awareness about developmental disabilities, inspire inclusive practices within communities, and showcase the remarkable abilities and contributions of individuals with disabilities.

**This year’s theme, “A World of Opportunities,” encourages collaboration to: **

  • Identify and dismantle obstacles that hinder individuals with disabilities from reaching their full potential.
  • Foster inclusive environments where everyone has the resources and support needed to achieve their goals and aspirations.
  • Celebrate the unique strengths and perspectives that individuals with disabilities bring to our communities.

“How Can You Contribute to Building a World Full of Opportunities?”

  • Educate yourself and others about developmental disabilities and the importance of inclusion.
  • Advocate for policies and practices that promote equality and accessibility.
  • Connect and engage with individuals with disabilities in your community.
  • Share stories and experiences that promote inclusion and understanding on social media using the hashtags #DDawareness2024, #DDAM2024, #AWorldofOpportunities, or #NewOpportunities.
