From Ramp to Refuge: Building Hope for a Local Veteran

From Ramp to Refuge: Building Hope for a Local Veteran

On Veterans Day 2023, we at Resource Center for Disability Solutions (RCDS) had the privilege of gifting a disabled Army veteran a ramp to regain independence in his own home. But the story doesn’t end there. Recently, we returned with the incredible L3 Harris Florida Chapter of SERVE ERG Team, not just to tidy up, but to transform his yard into a haven of accessibility and joy.

The SERVE team, true to their name, recognized that his love for gardening needed a boost. So, they built a custom garden stand, allowing him to tend to his green passion with ease and comfort. We joined forces, tackling the yard with a flurry of teamwork, laying down mulch, adding decorative rocks, and creating a space that was as beautiful as it was accessible.

This project wasn’t just about landscaping; it was about building hope, one shovelful at a time. We witnessed the veteran’s smile widen as he saw his dream garden taking shape, a testament to the power of community and the transformative impact of inclusivity.
