Centers for Independent Living (CILs) have been underfunded for decades, leading to individuals with disabilities lacking access to critical services and support.
CILs are hubs of disability:
- Information
- Resources
- Services
- Advocacy
Investing In Centers for Independent Living Benefits The Entire Community & Yields A Strong Return For Taxpayers
There are two types of CIL funding:
- Subchapter B – Independent Living Services
- Subchapter C – Centers for Independent Living (CIL)
Resource Center for Disability Solutions is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation and under federal mandates receives Federal and State funding for Independent Living Services. All of our services are free and at no cost to you.
Federally Funded CIL’s Provide Five Core Services:
- Information & Referral Services
- Independent Living & Life Skills Training
- Individual & Systems Advocacy
- Peer Support
- Transition & Diversion: Youth | Adult
The 5 for 5 Campaign primarily focuses on increasing funding for CIL’s whose work invests in community living and independence for people with disabilities. RCDS supports this mission as we come together as a collective voice of persons with diverse disabilities to effect change in policy for those with disabilities in the US.
To further this vision, RCDS is actively working to expand 5 for 5 Campaign’s reach and influence to ensure that individuals with disabilities have access to the services, programs, and technologies they need to live fully and independently.
Ways To Give
There is a growing need for assistance and accessible transportation within our community. Help cover the costs of the RCDS “Need a Ride” Transportation Program that provides free door-to-door wheelchair-accessible transportation for people with disabilities. Thank you for your support!
